Absurdity & Precision: The Hugh Mulhern Method uses Generative AI, a creative framework that blends surreal, high concept absurdity with the precision of modern filmmaking. In his work with artists such as Fontaines D.C. and Hak Baker, Hugh balances bizarre, often grotesque concepts with carefully constructed narrative structures and a strong, singular visual aesthetic, frequently drawing on stylised studio environments reminiscent of The Twilight Zone.

Hugh Mulhern is an accomplished director known for his strong narrative and penchant for the absurd, fusing disparate filmmaking techniques and technology to create truly memorable imagery. He has directed notable music videos for Hak Baker, Fontaines D.C., Porter Robinson, and Sega Bodega. Hugh has also worked with high-profile clients such as John Lewis, H&M, and EA Sports, and collaborated closely with designer Simone Rocha.
Hugh’s work has earned him numerous accolades, including gold for Best Music Video at the British Arrows, The Young Arrows, YDA at Cannes Lions, multiple Kinsale Shark Awards, and two UKMVA awards including Best New Director. He began his career as a spark on film sets at 16 before shifting to editing and eventually directing, finding a passion for organized chaos and creativity. With an undergraduate degree from IADT in Dublin and a master’s in Directing Fiction from NFTS in London, his innovative vision continues to make waves in the industry.
