John Crowley Live at Fastnet

On Saturday 23rd of May John Crowley visionary Irish Director of Stage and Screen will be in conversation with Lenny Abrahamson.

John Crowley is a highly acclaimed Irish director known for his emotionally rich work across film, television, and theatre. Born in Cork and a graduate of University College Cork, he first gained recognition with Intermission and Boy A, before achieving international success with Brooklyn. A two-time BAFTA winner, he also earned a Tony nomination for directing The Pillowman.

His film credits include The Goldfinch, starring Nicole Kidman, and television work such as True Detective. He recently reunited with Andrew Garfield for We Live in Time, co-starring Florence Pugh, which earned multiple award nominations and critical praise.

On Thursday 21st of May, Intermission, the multi award winning film directed by John Crowley, will screen in Schull. It  offers a lively, interconnected portrait of Dublin life. John (Cillian Murphy) schemes to win back Deirdre (Kelly Macdonald) by robbing the bank where her new partner works, alongside Mick (Brían F. O’Byrne) and volatile criminal Lehiff (Colin Farrell). Meanwhile, subplots involving romance, rivalry, and an eccentric policeman (Colm Meaney) weave together. Fast-paced and darkly comic, the film balances sharp humour with surprising emotional depth, capturing the chaos and charm of modern Dublin. Best Irish Film at the 1st IFTA Awards 2003!

Brooklyn will screen on Sunday 24th of May at the Garden Cinema in Schull. Saoirse Ronan is superb in Brooklyn, a moving love story about a young Irish immigrant torn between heart and home. Set in 1950s Enniscorthy, Ireland, the film captures small-town life with warmth. Director John Crowley elegantly adapts Colm Tóibín’s novel, following Eilis Lacey as she leaves for Brooklyn, finds work, friendship, and love with Tony, then faces a family crisis back home. Ronan, supported by Domhnall Gleeson and Julie Walters, delivers a luminous performance in this tender story of love, identity, and belonging.
