West Cork is the most south-westerly part of Ireland and consists of a series of long peninsulas and islands jutting out into the Atlantic Gulf Stream. It is justifiably famous both for its beauty and the friendliness and hospitality of its inhabitants. It is a very cosmopolitan region, with many incomers from Europe and the USA having made their homes in this happy land.
Schull is 90 minutes by road to the west of Cork city. It is a fully-functioning fishing village situated on the southern slope of Mount Gabriel at the head of a spectacular sheltered harbour. Famous for its craic (the ability to turn anything into a party), there are many opportunities to eat and drink well and exceptional accommodation can be had at every price level.
We have more than our fair share of artists, musicians, actors, writers, and photographers living in the area and Schull supports a very successful arts festival every summer. In addition, Baltimore hosts a famous annual Irish traditional music festival, with performers coming from all over the world and Bantry hosts the world-class Chamber Music Festival, the West Cork Literary Festival and the Masters of Tradition event.
The Fastnet Film Festival will host events, screenings and workshops in several different venues; ‘Our Village is our Screen’ and as such, we will, through our own server, be bringing our submissions to many various venues through our village. From bookshop, restaurants, pubs, cafés and even just picking them up on your own tablet, computer, smartphone, etc. Our tented village will host fringe events that promises to include some wonderful quirky events for all the family to enjoy. Puppet shows, cycle cinema, storytelling, etc.
Schull Parish Hall will be the our main venue, where our guests will be in conversation and where the audience in attendance are encouraged to participate in a question and answering forum.
