Nick Kelly’s Return to Fastnet Film Festival

Nick Kelly, director of the acclaimed Irish feature film, The Drummer and the Keeper, directed the Best Irish Short Film at Fastnet in 2011. Nick will return to Schull at the end of May to screen both his short film, Shoe, and his debut feature The Drummer and the Keeper. Following the screening, Nick will talk about the challenges he faced moving from shorts to feature.

Over the years, Nick has been the lead singer of the rock band, The Fat Lady Sings, has created several iconic Guinness adverts, including Michael Fassbender’s 2005 jaunt to New York across the Atlantic Ocean, and is the writer and director of several short films. The Drummer and The Keeper marks Nick’s feature film debut, which depicts a friendship between two teenagers. One, a crazy young rock drummer with Bipolar Disorder, and the other a goalkeeper with Asperger’s Syndrome. The pair meet at a mixed-ability football game. Support during periods of crises often comes from the most unusual places. Winner of Best First Irish Feature at the 2017 Galway Film Festival, the film is a comedy with an emotional punch, inspired by Nick’s personal experience with autism.
