Hollywood Stars announced at the Cinematographers’ Party
The festival, which will take place in Schull, West Cork from 21st-25th May, was launched last night (23rd April) at the Cinematographers’ Party at The Bodega, Cork.
Speakers at the event included Chair of the festival Helen Wells and Cinematographer Chris O’Dell. Also in attendance to celebrate the huge success of the festival were James Mullighan, Creative Director of the Cork Film Festival, John Kelleher former Director of Film Classification, Carlos Garcia de Alba Mexican Ambassador to Ireland, Paschal Scott actor, Brian Deane, director of the award-winning ‘Volkswagen Joe’, and Pat Kiernan, Artistic Director Corcadorca alongside over one hundred filmmakers.

Party guests could not believe that hot from the Oscars, Steve Coogan, along with the director Stephen Frears, producers Gabrielle Tana and Tracey Seaward were delighted to bring ‘Philomena’ to Schull in May and take part in various aspects of the festival.
Further exciting news announced included the planned attendance and screening of Ailbhe Keoghan’s ‘Run and Jump’. Other names announced were David Puttnam, Jim Sheridan, Sandy Lieberson and Carmel Winters. The line up this year is unprecedented with over 30 expert guests taking part.
Also featured at the festival will be in excess of 300 screenings, Local Interest Films, World Cinema Programmes to include the very best from China, Poland, Spain, India, Lebanon, Latin America and Mexico.
The Fastnet Film Festival is a major showcase for Irish and International short film production focusing on the craft of film and has been held in high regard on a local, national and international level for several years now. The 2014 festival focuses on the ‘Collaborative Nature of the Film-making Process’ and this year will run a series of seminars and workshops covering, sound, cinematography, direction, composing, production, animation, colour, lighting, Final Cut Pro, digital camera and funding.
Fringe events include the Ceiling Cinema, Mirror Cam, screenings on Long Island, the Mizen Experience, Movie Quiz, café viewing all over town, music, high quality family entertainment and much more.

Once the launch event was underway last evening, several clips of short films submitted to the competition were screened to give as a prequel to this year’s festival, along with music and lots of fun. All in all, a wonderful way to herald what will prove to be an intriguing and innovative festival over the final weekend in May 2014. Do not miss it!
